ROCKY POINT — East Bladen scored well in the sprints and relays Thursday to place 3rd in the boys meet and 4th in the girls meet at the 2nd Waccamaw Conference track & field meet of the season at Heide Trask. The girls also did well in the hurdles, while the boys claimed victories in the high jump and the discus.
The Eagle boys tallied 101 points to place 3rd behind Heide Trask (152.5) and Whiteville (131) and ahead of Pender (92) and South Columbus (91.5). West Columbus was 6th with 45 points.
Whiteville won the girls meet with 143 points followed by Heide Trask (134), Pender (102), East Bladen (85), West Columbus (40) and South Columbus (24).
Winning events for the Eagle boys were junior Dominick Collins in the high jump and senior Jaden Pridgen in the discus. The East Bladen 4×100 meter (Butler, Matthew Kemp, Tevin McLean, Kewone Maynor, and Jayden Dailey) and the 4×400 meter (Dominick Collins, Ronnie Covington, Kaden McKoy, Kemp and Xavier Potts) relay teams also won.
Junior Chace Butler finished 2nd in the 100 meters.
In the girls meet, the 4×100 meter (Trinity Kemp, Nyasia Banks, Mariah Ward, Aaliyah Monroe and Laila Smith) and 4×400 meter (Naiherna Leach, Malay’jah Gillespie, Allysa Stringfield, Zkya Drake) all won their events.
Layla Lent won the 300-meter hurdles, and Laila Smith won the 110-meter hurdles. Nyasia Banks finished 2nd in the 100 meters, and the 4×200 meter relay team (Kemp, Banks, Smith, Zahreonna Baldwin and Ward) finished 2nd.
