PEMBROKE – Bladenboro native Abbey Walters cracked 4 hits and scored 6 runs as her UNC-Pembroke Lady Braves split a Peach Belt Conference double-header with Francis Marion Saturday.

The Lady Patriots built a 7-0 lead in the first game before Walters ripped a single through the middle to ignite a 2-out rally in the Pembroke third inning. Walters moved up on a passed ball and scored on an error as UNC-P scored 2 runs.

Walters walked in the fifth inning, stole second and scored on Jamie Johnson’s double as the Marion lead shrunk to 7-4.

The senior pitcher smacked another single through the middle in the seventh inning, stole second and raced home on a Johnson single as the Lady Braves tied the game 7-7.

Walters also singled in the first inning to finish 3-3 at the plate with 3 runs scored and 2 stolen bases.

Francis Marion pushed across a run in the eighth against relief pitcher Maddie Armfield to take an 8-7 victory. Walters pitched the first 6 innings for the Lady Braves allowing 9 hits, 7 runs – 6 earned – and striking out three.

The Lady Braves won the nightcap 9-2. Walters reached base on an error in the third inning, stole second and sprinted home on a Johnson single to put the Lady Braves ahead 2-1.
Walters hammered a run-scoring double to left-centerfield in UNC-Pembroke’s 6-run fourth inning and later scored on another Johnson single.

In the sixth Walters walked and circled the bases on 3 more walks. For the game the West Bladen grad batted 1-3 with a double, a run batted in, 3 runs scored and a stolen base.

UNC-Pembroke travels to Winston-Salem State Sunday for a double-header that begins at 12 noon.
