WILMINGTON – Bladen FC U18 Gold battled the OBX Storm to a 2-2 tie Saturday in the Wilmington Seaside Soccer Classic at the Hugh McRae Athletic Complex.

Bladen FC U18 Gold is made up of players from Whiteville, West Columbus, South Columbus, West Bladen, and East Bladen. The OBX Storm is compiled of varsity players from First Flight.

Bladen FC scored in the tenth minute as Garret Melvin chipped the ball past the goal keeper with a right-footed shot for a 1-0 lead.

OBX Storm tied the game 1-1 midway through the second half. The Bladen team answered quickly as Jake Evans converted a feed from Greyson Heustess into the go-ahead goal.

With just under 6 minutes left, OBX would knot the score 2-2 as sloppy field conditions caused a misplay of the ball in the box.

“Rhett Freeman, Gabe Barber, and Bill Davis played extremely well in the back and cleared balls that were threats to score,” said Bladen Coach Jay Raynor. “Andrew Cahn also played some big minutes in midfield.”

Bladen FC U18 Gold will take on NCFC at 10 a.m. Sunday at Veterans Park.
