BasketballMidway sank 6 of 8 free throws in the final 1:18 to defeat visiting West Bladen 40-35 Tuesday night in Four County Conference jayvee boys’ basketball action.

The Raiders carried a 29-23 lead into the fourth quarter, but Knight sophomore John Bowen drained a 3-point shot to slice the margin to 29-26. Freshman guard Jimmy Williams scooped in a bank shot to trim the lead to 29-28.

Bowen tied the game 29-29 to with a free throw, and teammate Fred Walters nailed a 15-footer from the left elbow to put West ahead 31-29 with 2:47 left to play.

However Midway answered with 2 free throws and took the lead for good on a jump shot with 1:52 remaining. The parade to the foul line kept the Raiders ahead, but Bowen drilled a long 3-pointer to close the gap to 36-34 with 46 seconds left.

Bowen topped the Knight scoring with 10 points. Teammate Kalvin Page rang up 5 of his 9 points in the third period. Kasson Page added 6 points for West Bladen.

The Knights are now 6-7 in the Four County and 10-9 overall. The West jayvees will conclude their season Thursday night at East Bladen.
