CERRO GORDO – West Bladen exploded for 4 first-half goals and went on to defeat West Columbus 5-1 Wednesday night in Three Rivers Conference men’s soccer action.

“We had a convincing and much needed win last night,” said Knight Coach Phillip Turnage. “This is an example of what our team can do when we play together as a team. The defense, led by Johnny Santana was very effective. Angel Munoz, the goalkeeper, had multiple blocked shots on goal.”

Freshman Joseph Masaid fired in 2 goals and fellow striker Victor Lopez also scored 2 goals. Edgar Pollo Garcia knocked in the other West Bladen goal.

“Joseph had a very strong showing, Victor scored 2 goals and Edgar added to the mix with an impressive goal,” said Coach Turnage. “Overall, I feel that the team played as one and rebounded from last week’s lost. This is what we are capable of and will continue to do going into the weeks ahead.”

It was the first win of the season for the Knights who will take a 1-2-1 record into Monday’s home game against Red Springs.
