BLADENBORO – Luke Bryant pitched a no-hitter, struck out 8 batters and walked only 2 as Bladenboro defeated Tar Heel Wednesday in a Waccamaw Middle School Conference baseball game.
Coach Tim Benton’s Bulldogs improved to 2-0 and will travel to Tabor City Monday. Tar Heel will host West Columbus Tuesday.
Gaston Russ pounded a double to left field to start the Bulldogs’ 11-run 1st inning. Sawyer King laced a single to center that scored Gaston Russ. Corben Chadwick yanked a single to left that plated Sawyer King. Bryant and Devan Stanley reached base on errors as Chadwick scored. Cole Brisson roped a single to left that scored Bryant and Stanley.
Andrew Wren reached base on an error, and Gauge King hammered a triple to right field that scored Cole Brisson and Wren. Brooks Carroll raked a single to left that plated Gauge King. Gaston Russ swatted a single to right, and Sawyer King reached on a fielder’s choice. Bryant reached on an error that scored Gaston Russ and Sawyer King, and Stanley hooked a single to left that brought home Bryant.
Gauge King cracked a 1-out single in the 2nd, and Carroll drove him in with a single to left. Sawyer King smoked a single to center that scored Carroll for a 13-0 lead.
Keithan Russ smacked a single to left to start the Bulldog 4th, and Sawyer King reached on an error. One out later Bryant ended the game on the mercy rule with a 2-run single.
Gauge King batted 2-for-2 with a triple, 2 runs batted in and 2 runs scored to lead the Bulldog hitters. Carroll also finished 2-for-2 with 2 RBIs and a run scored. Sawyer King turned in a 2-for-3 game with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Gaston Russ also batted 2-for-3 with a double and 2 runs scored.
Chadwick, Bryant, Cole Brisson, Stanley and Keithan Russ all connected for 1 hit each. Bryant scored 2 runs, and Keithan Russ, Chadwick, Stanley, Cole Brisson and Wren all scored runs. Bryant and Cole Brisson had 2 RBIs each. Stanley had an RBI.
