NCHSAA 1A Baseball Playoffs: East Bladen 10, Tarboro 0

ELIZABETHTOWN –Seniors Jake Futrell and Britt Sasser combined on a 1-hit shutout and struck out 5 to lead East Bladen to a 10-0 mercy-rule victory over Tarboro in the opening round of the NCHSAA Class 1A baseball playoffs.

Coach Grant Pait’s Eagles, the No. 10 Eastern seed, raised their record to 13-11, and will advance to a 2nd round game at No. 7 seed Roxboro Community – a 3-2 winner over Chatham Central. READ MORE



NCHSAA 1A Softball Playoffs: East Bladen 15, Weldon 0

WELDON – Sophomore Jenna Brice pitched a 2-hit shutout and struck out 9 batters, and her East Bladen offensive mates piled up 15 runs as the Lady Eagles rolled to a 15-0 victory over Weldon in the opening round of the NCHSAA Class 1A softball playoffs.

Coach Alan West’s Lady Eagles, the No. 21 seed, raised their record to 9-10 and will play at No. 5 seed Perquimans, which defeated East Wake Academy 15-0. READ MORE



NCHSAA 2A Baseball Playoffs: Martin County 3, West Bladen 2, 8 innings

WILLIAMSTON –Sophomore Brody Whitaker laced a walk-off single to center field in the 8th inning that scored senior Cameron Lilley with the winning run as Martin County edged West Bladen 3-2 in the opening round of the NCHSAA Class 2A baseball playoffs.

West Bladen, the No. 22 seed, finished their season with an 11-11 record. READ MORE



NCHSAA 2A Softball Playoffs: Washington 10, West Bladen 0

WASHINGTON –Junior Emma Orr slugged a home run and a double and pitched a 1-hit shutout to lead Washington to a 10-0 victory over West Bladen in the opening round of the NCHSAA Class 2A softball playoffs Tuesday night.

The Lady Knights, the No. 28 seed in the 2A East, finished their season with a 7-8 record. READ MORE



Scotch Meadows Golf Course Hosted SFGA On Tuesday

GolfThe Southeastern Fellowship Golf Association played a two-net score tournament Tuesday at Scotch Meadows Golf Course in Laurinburg with 24 players participating.

Next week’s tournament is at Land O’ Lakes Golf Club in Whiteville.

Four Bladen Teams in Baseball, Softball Playoffs

The NCHSAA baseball and softball playoffs were finalized after 2 p.m. Monday. East Bladen’s baseball team will be the only Bladen team to open the playoffs at home.

The East Bladen softball is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. while the other games are set for 6 p.m. Admission, as set by the state, is $7. READ MORE



Girls Soccer: East Bladen 3, White Oak 2

JACKSONVILLE – Senior Heidi Rebollar’s 2nd goal of the game broke a 2-2 tie and lifted East Bladen to a 3-2 non-conference girls’ soccer victory over White Oak Monday night.

Coach Jay Raynor’s Lady Eagles improved to 13-2-2 with the victory and will host Union Wednesday. READ MORE



NCHSAA 2A MidEast Golf Regional: West Bladen Records 8th Place Finish

CHAPEL HILL – Seaforth’s Ty Willoughby and Griffin Ching shared medalist honors with matching 75s and led Seaforth to a 23-shot victory over 2nd place Franklin Academy in the NCHSAA Class 2A MidEast Boys’ Golf Regional Monday at The Preserve at Jordan Lake Golf Club.

NCHSAA 1A MidEast Golf Regional: East Bladen Finishes 10th

GOLDSBORO – East Wake Academy posted a 328 total to finish 12 strokes ahead of North Moore and take 1st place in the NCHSAA Class 1A MidEast Boys’ Golf Regional Monday at the Lane Tree Golf Club.

2nd Annual “Whack Smack It” Memorial Golf Tournament June 14

Vineyard Golf at White Lake has announced that it will host the 2nd annual “Whack Smack It” golf tournament on June 14 starting at noon. The tournament will benefit The Jim and Sue Schultz Foundation with proceeds going to East Bladen and West Bladen Athletics and Elizabethtown Dixie Youth Baseball.

The tournament is a four-player Captain’s Choice event. The cost is $60 per person. READ MORE



Waccamaw Track & Field Championships: East Bladen Girls Finish 4th; Boys 5th

BURGAW– Heide Trask’s boys and Pender’s girls claimed titles Wednesday in the Waccamaw Conference’s track & field championship meet at Pender High.

Heide Trask won the boys meet with 183 points to finish ahead of Whiteville (136), Pender (125), South Columbus (84) and East Bladen (58). Pender racked up 209 points in the girls meet to defeat Trask (142.5), Whiteville (128) and East Bladen (94.5). READ MORE



Southeastern Track & Field Championships: West Bladen Girls Finish 3rd; Boys 4th

ST PAULS– St. Pauls’ boys and Clinton’s girls claimed titles in the Southeastern Athletic Conference’s track & field championship meet Thursday. The St. Pauls’ boys racked up 139 points to defeat Clinton (82), Fairmont (81) and West Bladen (73).

The Clinton girls piled up 176 points to finish ahead of St. Pauls’ (116) and West Bladen (100). READ MORE



Dixie Belles Softball: Bladenboro Sweeps Pair

LELAND –Bladenboro swept both games of a Dixie Belles double-header Sunday defeating the West Lady Cardinals 3-1 in the opener then posting a 7-1 victory over the West Lady Tide in the nightcap. Bladenboro raised their record to 6-0 on the season. READ MORE

HCA’s Varsity Golf Team Wins Top Awards

The Harrells Christian Academy Varsity Golf team was named Coastal Independent Conference (CIC) champions on Monday, April 29. The team was recognized as regular season champions with a record of 29-1 and freshman Jack DuBose was named the CIC Player of the Year. READ MORE

BLADENBORO – Senior Jordan Hester lined a walk-off single down the left field line that scored junior Garrett Dunham with the winning run Friday night as West Bladen’s Knights clinched 2nd place in the Southeastern Athletic Conference with a 1-0 victory over Red Springs.

Coach Wade Pait’s Knights finished regular season play with a 7-3 SAC record and improved to 11-10 overall. READ MORE

BLADENBORO – Senior Gracie Faircloth celebrated ‘Senior Night’ by pitching a 4-hit shutout and striking out 6 batters to lead West Bladen to a 10-0 Southeastern Athletic Conference softball victory over Red Springs.

ELIZABETHTOWN – Eli Woodell smacked a 2-run double to right field that snapped a 1-1 tie and sparked Emereau Bladen to a 5-1 non-conference middle school baseball victory over Tar Heel.

NCHSAA  1A Dual Team Tennis Playoffs: East Bladen Advances to 3rd Round

East Bladen’s men’s tennis team received a bye in the first round of the Class 1A Dual Team Tennis Playoffs. The Eagles 2nd round match was to be Monday, May 6 vs Vance Charter at home. However Vance Charter has now forfeited that match.

East Bladen will play the winner of Chatham Central/West Columbus in the third round on May 8th. Site and time are yet to be determined.

Thundering Herd Begins New Season At Vineyard Golf

An old tradition was begun again Thursday at Vineyard Golf At White Lake. It is called “The Thundering Herd.”

The Herd was started over 30 years ago. It begins in May and continues through October. It is a Captain’s Choice nine hole tournament. READ MORE

BEAULAVILLE –East Bladen capitalized on a trio of East Duplin errors to take the lead with 3 runs in the 4th inning enroute to a 5-2 non-conference baseball victory Wednesday night.

Coach Grant Pait’s Eagles completed the regular season with a 12-11 record and earned the Waccamaw Conference’s top Class 1A playoff bid. READ MORE


Girls Soccer: East Bladen 1, East Duplin 1

BEULAVILLE – East Bladen and East Duplin battled to a 1-1 tie Wednesday night in non-conference girls’ soccer action. Junior Iveonna “NeNe” Ward turned an assist from junior Jackie Medina-Leal into an early goal for the Lady Eagles.

East Duplin tied the game on a goal with 9 minutes left to play. The Lady Panthers, now 14-5-2, lead the East Central 2A with a 9-0 conference record. Coach Jay Raynor’s Lady Eagles, now 12-2-2, will travel to White Oak Monday for a non-conference match.


Softball: East Duplin 7, East Bladen 3

BEAULAVILLE –Senior Addison Tuck’s 2-run double tacked on a pair of insurance runs late as East Duplin held off East Bladen 7-3 Wednesday night in non-conference softball action.

The Lady Eagles have completed the regular season with an 8-10 record and will now wait for the state playoff pairings to be released on May 6th. READ MORE


Middle School Baseball: Elizabethtown 11, Tar Heel 1

ELIZABETHTOWN –Fox Sutton pitched a 1-hitter and struck out 14 batters to lead Elizabethtown to an 11-1 Waccamaw Middle School Conference baseball victory over Tar Heel Wednesday.

Coach Teffrey McKoy’s Cougars improved to 2-6 for the season. Tar Heel is now 0-9 and will play Emereau Bladen at Bladen County Park Thursday. READ MORE

ELIZABETHTOWN –Tar Heel scored 15 runs in the top of the 1st inning then held on for a 17-15 Waccamaw Middle School Conference softball victory over Elizabethtown Wednesday.

It was the 1st win of the season for the Lady Panthers (1-8) who will play Emereau Bladen at Bladen County Park Thursday. Elizabethtown is now 0-8. READ MORE
