
Basketball awards highlighted the early March sports news, along with Macon Hammond’s trip to spring training as he continued his quest for a major league baseball umpiring job. Hammond was later assigned to the Class AA Southern League for the 2022 season.
East Bladen and West Bladen met twice each on the baseball and softball diamonds and on the soccer fields in late March. East Bladen’s Patty Evers coached the East team to victory in the McDonald’s All-American Basketball Game in Chicago.
West Bladen and East Bladen’s track & field teams had strong seasons, an East Bladen boys’ tennis duo advanced to regional play, and golfers from East Bladen and West Bladen also qualified for regional play. East Bladen and West Bladen had strong girls’ soccer seasons. East Bladen and West Bladen softball and East Bladen baseball were all in contention for top playoff spots in their respective sports.
